My research focuses on the development and evaluation of technologies that target to support women’s access to healthcare resources in low-resource settings in India. Low-resource populations in India experience limited access to quality healthcare resources, which is further limited for women, given their low health literacy and socio-cultural context, which shapes their healthcare access and agency around their own bodies. My work offers socio-technical tools that provide healthcare support situated in the socio-cultural context of women. I situate my research in public health, particularly maternal health, in which I have a special interest in investigating taboo topics such as family planning.
In my research, I engage with qualitative research methods to perform contextual inquiry, followed by exploration of technological interventions to offer informational and peer support to low-resource women to meet their healthcare needs. I have experience conducting both large- and small-scale deployments of technological interventions such as chatbots, with and without AI, and peer support groups and further evaluating their impact on behavioral and informational aspects of women’s health. Currently, I am studying the use of Large Language Models for healthcare needs in low-resource settings in India.
